I’m sitting at a table in my kitchen. It has a cheesy woodgrain texture on it, is round, and seats 6. The table has 2 extensions in the middle to make it longer, making it look like a stretched circle. The table is polished, shiny, and has a golden colour. The top of the table is only an inch thick, but underneath it a slightly smaller rim connects to it. This leaves a little overhang. A central base connects to the bottom of the table which leads to the ground. The base has 4 rounded legs connected to it and on the bottom of each leg is a soft pad that touches the floor.
On top of the table there is a bowl. The bowl is placed somewhat in the center of the table but is off by a few inches. It is a round bowl, shiny, off-white, and has a forest green ring around it. The inside of the bowl has a green leaf pattern which spans around the entire section closest to the edge. The bowl has fruit in it. There are 7 bananas, 14 tangerines, and 1 apple hidden underneath all the tangerines. Unexpectedly there are now only 13 tangerines. The apple still remains mostly hidden.
The 6 chairs surrounding the table also have a cheesy woodgrain texture, are polished, shiny, thin, and have a golden colour. In the back of the chair there are 8 pegs to support the rounded backrest. The backrest connects to the seat of the chair, which is flat. The legs of the chair connect to the bottom of the seat. They are beveled and have small pads under them which touch the floor, similar to the table. There is a hanging light above the table with 5 working light bulbs.
The floor is tiled. It has a stony look to it. The tile itself is off-white and the grout is brown. The room is rectangular and has light brown walls. There are 3 doorways to get in or out of the kitchen. 2 of the doorways are open and don’t have a door, the last one is a glass sliding door. The sliding door has a white border and black handles. There are white plastic blinds on either side of the sliding door which are open. On the ground in front of the sliding door there is a rug. It is rectangular and spans the length of 3 quarters of the sliding door. The rug has a worn, forest green colour with off-white squares randomly arranged on it. There is also a little piece of wood on the floor in front of the sliding door, half on the rug and half off.
In the small space between the sliding door and the wall to the right is a little wooden table. The table has a triangular top and fits right into the corner. There is a candle on top of the table. It does not look like it has ever been lit. The table has a small drawer in it. Below the drawer there is a gap and then another shelf. That shelf has a smaller candle on it. Both candles are in candle holders made out of metal. The top one is dark brown and the bottom one is vanilla.
The wall coming from the corner has a very large window in it, nearly the length of the wall. The window starts at belly-button height and goes up until just a head below the ceiling. There is no glass in the window, it is just a hole which connects the kitchen to another room. Around the hole there is a white trim. It is the same style trim which goes around the bottom of the wall and the outside of the doorways. The window leaves a little bit of space to put objects on it. On top of it at the eastern side there is a cordless telephone and handset. The base of the phone reads “Vtech.” It is a black phone with a glossy finish. Next to the phone there are 2 candles. The candles are red and stuck inside clear glass candle holders. Both candles are the same size. These candles appear to have been lit as the wicks are blackened, though they are currently not lit. There are no more objects on the wall until the plant at the west end. The plant is stringy and green. It has small leaves with 5 points. The plant sits in a pot but the leaves spill outside of it anyway. The pot is round and resembles more of a sphere than a cylinder. It has lines which run around it, some big and some small. The lines are pink and lime.
Between the end of the hole in the wall and the southwest corner is a clock. The clock is round and has a dark brown woodgrain border. The hands of the clock are black. This clock includes all the numbers from 0 to 12 on it but are written in roman numerals. The numerals are also black. There is a clear plastic cover over the face and hands of the clock. Under the clock there is a white light switch. It has 4 white flathead screws in it at the corners. There are 2 small flip switches, both of them flipped up into the on position.
At the south side of the western wall is one of the doorways. Beside the doorway is a desk. The desk is attached to the wall. It has 7 drawers, 3 on each side of it and one big one in the middle. The drawers all have brass handles on them, one on each of the smaller drawers and 2 on the big drawer. The desk has a wood grain and is similar colour to the table. The desktop, however, is a purple and grey marble colour. On top of the desk there is a plant, Kleenex box, Pez dispenser, bills, Burger King coupons, a container full of pens and pencils, and a small pad of paper. The plant is fake. The leaves are bigger than the other plant but not as green. The plant sits in a white ceramic pot which has engravings of flowers on it even though the plant is not a flower. The Kleenex box is peach coloured and has an assortment of flower drawings on it. It still has a vast quantity of Kleenex inside it. The Pez dispenser is yellow and has the Tasmanian Devil as a head. The bills are unpaid, the coupons are still all attached, and the notepad remains blank. Underneath the desk there is a big red bucket. The bucket is shiny and rectangular with slightly curved edges. The handle is thin and white. The bucket has a red lid. To the left of the bucket and still underneath the desk are 2 dog bowls. One bowl has dog food and the other has water. The bowls are connected by a thin black wire. Just north of the desk is another doorway. This doorway leads to the dining room. It has a white trim border and no door, the same as the previous doorway.
The cabinet begins immediately after the doorway. It reaches down the rest of the western wall, turns the corner and continues along the northern wall, then finally turns the last corner and runs down the eastern wall back to the sliding door where we began. The refrigerator is the first thing in the cabinet and sits beside the doorway. The fridge is white and has 2 doors. On the left side of the fridge there is a red cross magnet, an 8.5×11 printed picture of somebody holding an assault rifle, a Three Stooges magnet holding said picture, and a newspaper clipping about junior boys rugby. On the front of the fridge the left door has a magnet of a black dog, a small mirror with text supporting the Navy on it, and a pad with a felt marker for writing notes on the fridge. At this moment there are no notes written down on the pad but there is a drawing of a stick figure. Underneath these objects there is a water and ice machine built into the door. It features both crushed ice and cubed ice. The right door of the refrigerator has another magnet of a black dog, a small image of a portrait of a young girl, an Orlando Florida magnet, a 4×6 photo with 5 older women in it, a Cheers magnet, a newspaper clipping for the army, and a Little Caesar’s Hot-N-Ready pizza magnet. The right side of the fridge has nothing on it.
On top of the fridge there is a huge black Isoflex protein container. Above that there are 4 cupboards. The cupboards are all brown and have a woodgrain texture on them. The cupboards have the same brass handles as the desk. They extend out past the fridge to the corner. Beside the fridge and underneath the cupboards is a counter-top. The counter-top has the same purple and grey marble colour as the desk. Under the counter there is room for only one more cupboard. On top of the counter there is a white microwave. The clock on the microwave has been flashing 1:40 for about 15 minutes now. Half a loaf of Wonder Bread is resting on the microwave. Beside the microwave is a wooden knife holder with 6 knives in it. The knives have black handles. Beside the knives is the toaster. The toaster is white and glossy. It features a maximum load of up to 4 slices. The front of the toaster has 2 dials for maximum control of toasting duration. Toasting duration can vary from anywhere between the numbers 1 and 8. In front of the toaster there is a small bottle of Flinstone’s vitamins. This marks the end of the west wall.
The counter-top and cupboards connect and continue on from the previous wall. There is one cupboard underneath the counter and 2 above it. There are no items on the counter-top. Next to this is the oven. It is a white oven with a black electrical stove on top. There are 5 white circular outlines on the top of the stove. The oven has 6 knobs on it: left front, left rear, warmer drawer, warmer zone, right rear, and right front. All the dials are set to off. The front of the oven has a window you can look through to see the inside and the bottom of the oven has a drawer. Above the oven is a light and fan. The light is on but the fan is off. Above those are 2 smaller cupboards in comparison to the other ones.
To the right of the stove the counter-top and normal sized cupboards begin again. On the counter-top there is a bowl of sugar, 4 potatoes wrapped in tinfoil, and an electric kettle. The kettle is white and plugged into the outlet on the wall just behind it. Underneath the counter there are drawers instead of cupboards. There are 4 drawers. The top 3 drawers are all the same height but the bottom drawer is twice as large. The cupboards and counter-top have now reached the final corner and connect again to more cupboards and counter-top space.
There is one cupboard at the top left. Beside it there is a window. The window is made of glass, looks out into the backyard, and has the same white blinds as the sliding door. Directly underneath the window is the kitchen sink. The sink is silver, has one faucet, 2 basins, and the left basin is full of dishes. There are 3 cupboards underneath the sink.
To the right of the cupboards is the dishwasher. If there was “one little thing that’s not like the other” in my kitchen it would be the dishwasher. It is old, aging white and turning yellow. The dials are all cracked and broken. Compared to the stove the dishwasher looks like a 20 year old stack of garbage. This magnificent dishwasher has an on and off button, short wash, and a heat dry option. The label reads BeauMark Whisper Wash, but I can tell you the dishwasher does a lot more than just whisper.
On the counter-top above the dishwasher there is a soap dispenser filled with green soap, a second soap dispenser with a beige opaque cover, a bottle of orange vitamins, a tray filled with more tangerines, an empty Coca-Cola can, and a Food & Drink magazine. There are 2 cupboards beside the dishwasher and 3 above it. The counter now ends and returns back to the sliding door.
